Ki Pulse System

Ki Pulse (气脉/残心) is the most fundamental combat mechanic in Nioh 3. After attacking, white Ki particles remain near you - pulse at the right moment to recover stamina and continue your assault!

How Ki Pulse Works

1

Attack

After attacking, white Ki particles appear around you

2

Timing

Watch the white Ki pulse expand. Press R1/RT when the pulse is at its peak

3

Recover

Successfully timing the pulse recovers stamina and purges debuffs

Advanced Techniques

Flux (流转)

Switch stances during Ki Pulse for additional stamina recovery

Tip: High → Low stance Flux provides maximum recovery

Sword Ki (剑气)

Perfect Ki Pulse increases your next attack's damage

Tip: Stack Sword Ki for devastating High Stance combos

Living Weapon

Successful Ki Pulse extends Living Weapon duration

Tip: Essential for prolonged burst phases

High Ki Consumption Weapons

Weapons like Odachi and Axe have massive Ki costs. Mastering Ki Pulse is mandatory for these weapons. Without proper Ki Pulse timing, you'll run out of stamina after just 2-3 attacks!

Ki Consumption by Stance

Stance Ki Cost Ki Pulse Recovery Best For
High (上段) High High recovery potential Burst windows
Mid (中段) Medium Balanced recovery Sustained combat
Low (下段) Low Low but fast Ki recovery phase

Essential Combat Tips

Ki Pulse First

Always prioritize Ki Pulse timing over extra attacks. A successful pulse recovers stamina for more offense. Missing pulse leaves you vulnerable.

Watch Enemy Patterns

Study enemy telegraphs before attacking. Each enemy has tells - learn them and respond appropriately rather than mashing buttons.

Don't Be Greedy

Attack 1-2 times, then evade or Ki Pulse. Greed leads to being punished. Safety first, steady progress wins.

Use Flux Recovery

Switch stances during Ki Pulse for bonus recovery. High → Low Flux gives maximum stamina back.

Style Switching

Switch combat styles based on the situation. Samurai for steady damage, Ninja for evasion and aggressive bosses.

Use Items

Don't hoard items! Elixirs, talismans, and Quick-Change Scrolls exist to be used. They replenish frequently.
